Hair dressing and hardware are not normally associated, but next week they are coming together in a unique fundraiser.
Bowens Timber and Hardware in Settlement Road in Cowes will be hosting a Tradie Hair Cut Day on Wednesday, July 21 to help raise money for local businesses struggling due to the ongoing pandemic.
The driving force behind the day is Bowens employee Eden Addison, who is a hairdresser by trade.
“I’ve been watching small local businesses dwindling away,” she said.
“Covid has really affected them and the impact is massive.”
From 9am until 5pm, Eden is offering haircuts on site and asking everyone to choose the amount they want for the service.
“I’m not taking any money, everything we raise will go towards a business we want to help get back on track,” she said.
The team at Bowens is already considering which businesses might be most in need of a helping hand, but Eden said she’s also asking the community to nominate businesses.
There’s no need to make an appointment or to be a tradie to take part.
Just come on down and help your local community.
The Corner Coffee Shop is providing coffees for the event and donating $1 from each coffee towards the cause.
Bowens staff will provide a barbeque.
A spokesperson for Bowens said it was happy to throw its support behind the fundraiser.
“As a community store we are always supporting our community.
“Eden has a great passion to help others and this was something she had thought of – a community fundraiser to help our local businesses that have been struggling and fighting so hard to continue.
“She told us “I would like to help others, help me, help everyone else, because at the end of the day we are all struggling in our own ways, so why can't we struggle together?”.
“How could we turn her down?
“Bowen's Hardware and Timber Phillip Island are so proud to help her to support our beautiful local community.”
