On Easter Saturday morning, April 8, the Lions club of Phillip Island will be holding a fund-raising BBQ outside Cowes IGA, from 8am, to raise funds to help defeat childhood cancer.

IGA have generously set aside part of their carpark fronting Thompson Avenue for the event.

Part of the Australian Lions Biggest BBQ 2023, this event in Cowes will help raise funds to combat childhood cancer.

Many of the other 1200 Lions Clubs across Australia will be running similar BBQs throughout 2023 to add their contributions to this fight.

Since 1996, Lions Australia Childhood Cancer Research Fund (ALCCRF) has contributed over $12 million to childhood cancer research. This effort has helped the development of safer and more effective blood stem cell transplantation for leukaemia patients following chemotherapy, leading to shorter hospitalisation and more rapid recovery.

The ALCCRF has now announced it will provide $1.05 million of funding to the Telethon Kids Cancer Centre.

Chair of the Telethon Kids Institute, the Hon. Julie Bishop said, “we are so grateful for Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation’s support. This $1.05 million in funding will enable the Telethon Kids Cancer Centre to continue its leading research into childhood cancer – particularly in the area of cancer immunotherapy, which focuses on supercharging the body’s natural defences to destroy cancer cells.”

Lions Club of Phillip Island also welcomes the assistance provided by Bakers Delight in Cowes for this battle against kids’ cancer.
