Phillip Island Nature Parks says there is no evidence of another fox on Phillip Island, despite an uptick in the number of reported fox sightings.

“There is no further evidence of a live fox on Phillip Island,” a Nature Parks spokesperson said.

“Our conservation team is continuing to closely monitor the situation and will update the community if anything changes.”

In July Nature Parks said DNA samples collected from the fox that was caught were matched to the scats and tracks of the fox responsible for the attack at Bimbadeen egg farm, when dozens of chooks were killed back in May.

But this month locals took to social media to report various sightings, including at Hells Corner, Ventnor.

One person suggested it was a fox killing a friend’s chickens, while Kimmy commented “they can say we don’t have foxes here but that’s my second out here around Ventnor”.

Several people remarked the sightings could be a large hare or a ginger cat.

A sheep farmer said they had just finished lambing season with “not one fox attack”.
