Offshore wind strategy

The state government is seeking feedback on its offshore wind strategy and the best way to develop offshore wind to maximise jobs, build local supply chains and help deliver Traditional Owner self-determination and economic independence.

Solar rebates expanded

Eligibility for Victoria’s Solar Homes program will be expanded, so households can access rebates for both solar panels and solar hot water or high-efficiency electric heat pumps for the first time.

Businesses can receive up to $8500 off the upfront cost of a solar system installation through the expansion of eligibility criteria of the Solar for Business Program. solar.vic.gov.au.

$250 power saving bonus

From July 1, the new $250 payment will be open to all households who use the Victorian Energy Compare website to compare their energy deal and find a better price.

User data shows that seven out of every 10 users can save money by switching energy offers, with typical annual savings of $330 on energy bills in the first year of switching alone.

If you don’t have access to a computer or the internet, call the Victorian Energy Compare helpline or a community outreach partners.

Households that have previously claimed a $50 or $250 Power Saving Bonus will be eligible for this new one-off payment when the program opens in July. compare.energy.vic.gov.au.

Cash for trash

Have your say on the design of the container deposit scheme (CDS) due to start in 2023, which aims to maximise recycling of cans, bottles and cartons and reduce Victoria’s litter.

The plan outlines the types of containers accepted in the scheme and a 10 cent refund for returning each container. Consultation also covers the number of refund collection points and their operating hours, so that metropolitan, regional and remote areas can benefit from the scheme.

Electric chargers

Grants are now available for businesses to install Electric Vehicle charging stations, and help businesses transition to electric fleet cars.
