Champions of the future!

After beating Inverloch two weeks earlier in the second semi-final Phillip Island were excited to try and repeat the effort against a very good Inverloch side.

On a wet morning at Garfield, Phillip Island’s banner summed up their year.

Belonging Energy Enjoyment Underdog Selfless. Team First. We Grind Harder.

The first quarter was a real Grand Final grind with both teams applying great pressure.

The Phillip Island backline was strong, holding the Inverloch danger forwards.

Fobber Finn O’Brien had a glint in his eye early and with two huge first quarter goals the Island went into quarter time one goal up.

First quarter:  Phillip Island 2.2 (14) to Inverloch 1.0 (6).

The second quarter started with the Phillip Island midfield upping the body on pressure and it showed by taking over in the clearances.

Walker, Merryfull, Thompson and Yianni Caffieri went to work.

The netball court end seemed to be the scoring end and Phillip Island took advantage of it.

A great goal on the run from Double Cobra Daniel Caffieri and two crumbing goals by Benji Chihotski took Phillip Island into half time three goals up.

Second quarter: Phillip Island 5.2 (32) to Inverloch 2.0 (12).

The third quarter saw a goalless grind by both teams.

The Phillip Island backline continued with their team first mentality stopping any Inverloch attacks.

Team leaders on the wings, Max Arceo (captain) and Sonny McMillan set-up and directed the team amazingly.

Third quarter: Phillip Island 5.6 (36) to Inverloch 2.0 (12).

Finn O’Brien continued his great game kicking two more early goals to start the last quarter to take Phillip Island to six goals up with 10 minutes to go and give everyone involved a chance to enjoy the last quarter.

For this amazing group of young men who have formed a very tight bond throughout the year it was an extremely well-deserved premiership!

Final Score: Phillip Island 7.8 (50) to Inverloch 3.1 (19).

Goal Scorers: Finn O’Brien 4, Benji Chihotski 2 and Daniel Caffieri 1.

Best Players: Finn O’Brien, Zac Walker, Leo Savona, Darcy Thompson, William Peppard and Yianni Caffieri.
