Growing Cambodia fundraiser
Round up your friends and head to the Adventure Resort on September 9 for an evening of trivia, fundraising and fellowship.
Have you got your table booked yet?
It’s not too late to round up your friends and head to the Phillip Island Adventure Resort on Saturday September 9 for an evening of trivia, fundraising and fellowship.
Tables of 10 are still available and with room for plenty more.
If you are unable to make this number, you can still come along and join in with others.
At a cost of $50 per head, this event is a fundraiser for the Growing Cambodia project.
This is an initiative established by Steven Davie and family in an effort to bring education and opportunities to the underprivileged children in Cambodia.
In the past 11 years, four schools in rural villages have benefited from this continued support, able to attend regular school classes free of charge.
At present, more than 800 students are receiving lessons in these schools.
They are conducted by local teachers with the help of overseas volunteers.
Growing Cambodia provides a gift for life in the form of a positive future for many of these children; some of whom are now undertaking tertiary studies.
One of the prerequisites for university entrance in Cambodia is to be fluent and literate in the English language.
With some students are now reaching this level of education, a new focus for Growing Cambodia is to provide funding for their tertiary studies.
Hence a tertiary patron is now being sought.
There will be an opportunity during the upcoming fundraiser to become involved in this project.
To date the Growing Cambodia school establishment program has enabled five students to qualify as teachers, and 11 former students are attending various universities in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Fun evening
This fundraiser promises to be a fun evening with local DJs LJ and Meg in charge again and with their usual bag full of surprises and shocks.
A number of island businesses have donated items for auction, which is much appreciated by organisers.
For other businesses that would like to donate, there is still time.
All donors will be acknowledged on the night and on social media.
Starting time at the Adventure Resort is 6.30pm. BYO food and drinks, glassware and cutlery.
