Bass Coast Health (BCH) celebrated staff who work in aged care on Monday.
Aged Care Employee Day acknowledges the more than 360,000 people who care for and support around 1.3 million older Australians who receive aged care services.
BCH operates two residential care facilities, Kirrak House at Wonthaggi and Griffiths Point Lodge at San Remo.
As the sub-regional health service for the Bass Coast and South Gippsland shires, BCH’s aged care services also include Flexihealth, Transitional Care, Residential In-Reach and Sub-Acute services.
“Working in aged care is often perceived as difficult, but it isn’t difficult – it’s a privilege,” BCH CEO Jan Child said.
“It is a specialty that requires specialist skills and expertise, and enormous kindness and compassion.
“Being able to support older community members is enriching. Our staff hear the rich wisdom of our older community members, they become part of an extended family, and they are able to support older people and families during some of their most vulnerable and frail times.”
Ms Child said working in aged care could bring opportunities for growth and personal and professional development.
“And it can bring everlasting friendships.”
