Bass Coast Health (BCH) is excited to host another intake of medical students as part of the health service’s contribution to training the medical workforce of the future.
The students are a mix of fourth- and fifth-year students from Monash University’s Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine course, and they are undertaking their placements until October.
During that time, they will undertake rotations in the Emergency Department, Kodowlinun Acute Ward, Sub-Acute and Theatre to gain a breadth of medical experience.
Jack Smart, a fifth-year student, has been working in Acute Ward.
“I’ve been doing a lot of ward rounds, taking notes, helping with some procedures and doing tasks with the team,” he said.
Jason Zhang is a fifth-year student who began his longer placement with BCH in January.
“I really like it here. It’s been a good environment to learn in and I’ve been working with a good team,” he said.
BCH CEO Jan Child said she wanted students to have an enjoyable time so they return to BCH in an ongoing capacity.
“Working in a sub-regional health service such as Bass Coast Health offers students a diversity of experiences they may not receive in a metropolitan health service,” she said.
“They also have the opportunity to work as part of our fabulous teams and make a real contribution to our local community.”
The students have also been enjoying the community and sporting opportunities offered locally.
