Don’t miss the St John’s Uniting Church’s annual fundraising concert on June 11.
Singularity and Island Harmony Choir are donating their time and talent to present Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore in concert and in full costume.
Proceeds will go to Rubaga Youth Development Association (RYDA), Uganda who provide vocational and life skill training for orphaned and vulnerable young people aged 12 -18.
They continue to accommodate, teach, feed and care for over 200 young people at their Kampala live-in campus.
RYDA is an accredited charity, but receives no government funding.
Madcap fun
For those not familiar with this much-love story, HMS Pinafore follows the story of Josephine who has fallen in love with a common sailor, something often counselled as unwise by experienced mothers.
Able Seaman Ralph Rackstraw, HMS Pinafore, is equally imbued with romantic intent for Josephine, who, as daughter of the captain of his ship is, unfortunately, beyond his status.
To further complicate the plot Daddy intends her to accept the hand of the First Lord of the Admiralty who is visiting the ship on this very day.
Expect a rollicking afternoon of madcap fun, enthusiastic vocals and mellifluous accompaniment as the plot descends to the dungeons of despair before rising refreshed to the heights of happiness as a buttercup rises from soil to sun.
Stunning costumes, live music and great company are guaranteed at St John's Uniting Church, Chapel Street, 2pm Sunday June 11.
Tickets at the door: $15 adults and $5 under 14.
All proceeds support Rubaga Youth Development Association, Uganda.
