If the VRET is approved, dredging of Western Port will take place in the purple area, 24/7 for five months. "This area, already highly disturbed, is resilient and can recover from managed disturbances," according to the Port of Hastings. Western Port is one of only five UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Australia and a designated a Ramsar wetland.
