Bass Coast Shire Council has no plans to develop the 45-hectare property on Gap Road.

Is Gap Road a 45-hectare, million-dollar white elephant?
In 1994 it was announced the Rhyll tip would eventually be closed, with the land to be handed back to the State Government. When an alternative site could not be found, an interim measure was put in place with the opening of the Cowes Recycling Bank in Dunsmore Road in 2013.
