Surfing Victoria has announced the 2021 surfing events calendar, with Phillip Island scheduled to hold four of the events.
After a year of events cancelled due to Covid, the first half of the year is jam packed, including Junior, Open, Longboard and SUP titles.
Four young Island surfers will be keen to get back in the water and compete in this year’s titles.
Sophie Fletcher was the 2020 Victorian Open Women’s champion, while Harry de Roth placed second in the Open Men.
Poppy Corbett and Codie Jeffery were second place getters in the Under 18 girls and boys titles respectively.
Round one of the Junior Titles kicked off last week at Gunnamatta Beach.
Poppy finished second in the Under 18 girls event, behind Mia Huppatz from Jan Juc.
The Masters and Open rounds scheduled for the weekend were cancelled due to bad weather.
Phillip Island events
The first Phillip Island event is Round 3 of the Open series, which will be held on the island on February 27, with the Victorian Teams Titles held the following day (February 28).
That’s followed by Round 2 of the Junior Titles, scheduled for March 20 and 21, then the first round of the longboard titles on May 1 and 2.
“We are stoked to be back running events under Covid-Safe guidelines” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.
“These events bring surfers from all regions together and are a key part of our offering to members.”
