Island rabbit population an “unfolding catastrophe”

Even though Bass Coast Shire councillors say there is an “unfolding catastrophe” from Phillip Island’s growing rabbit population, the council has failed to offer methods to reduce their growing numbers.

Rabbits 1, humans 0: Rabbits reach reproductive maturity at three months of age, meaning one pair of rabbits can become 184 rabbits in 18 months. Despite this, Bass Coast Shire Council has opted not to crank up controls.
