It’s happy days at the Senior Citizens

Members of the Senior Citizens Club in Cowes are thrilled at the work that has been carried out at their clubrooms by Bass Coast Shire Council recently.
In a project that has amazed club members, very large cracks that appeared in their wall years ago have gone; the walls have been straightened, and all in a four day process that had no impact on their activities at all.
Secretary Liza Lee, vice president Alan Droscher, and club members could not be happier with what has been achieved.
Mr Droscher said the cracks members have lived with for a long time were caused by an earthquake, quite some years ago.
“The rain came through the ceiling, the floors got wet, and the cracks looked terrible,” he said.
After years of waiting, Mainmark Ground Engineering, appointed by Bass Coast Shire Council recently, carried out underpinning works at the clubrooms last month. The company used what is known as the Teretek Deep-Lift method for the work, which basically involved the pumping of structural lifting foam beneath the sunken sections of the building.
The foam was pumped under the building from its exterior, lifting the construction by the controlled force generated by expanding resin, bringing the structure back to level.
The foam cures to full strength in a short time and sets like concrete.

“The works have made a huge difference,” Mr Droscher said.
“It certainly straightened the walls up.
“Most of the cracks simply disappeared when the building was made level again. The few cracks that remain are much smaller and can now be filled.
“It took just four days. We are all amazed at the result.
“We are as happy as a dog with two tails,” he joked.
“It has taken quite a while to get this work done, and we are thrilled with the result.”
Council’s website describes the process, which cost just $62,000 to complete.
