Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) is inviting everyone to take part in a community Walk Against Domestic Violence.

The walk - which aims to break the silence and stop the violence - will take place in Cowes at 1pm on Thursday November 27.

The walk is part of the global campaign - 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence - which is dedicated to ending violence against women and children.

On the day of the walk, community members are asked to meet at 1pm outside PICAL at 16 Warley Avenue, Cowes.

The walkers will then complete a one-kilometre loop through Cowes to show unity and support for those affected by domestic violence. After the walk, there will be an afternoon tea and presentation on respectful relationships by Gippsland Women's Health at PICAL.

"Everything we do at PICAL is about the community and for the community," explains Kerryn Ladell, Assistant Centre Manager, PICAL.

"This walk is about coming together as a community to make a visible stand against domestic violence.

"We're showing that there is no place for domestic or family violence in our homes and in our community.

"We want to raise awareness and start conversations," she adds.

"We want to show that we all have a role to play in building a safe and respectful community. The event is also a practical way to provide support for those experiencing or who know someone experiencing violence.

"Sadly, the rates of family violence across Bass Coast are high, so reaching out to the community has never been so important."

The event is supported by Bass Coast Shire Council and Gippsland Women's Health and supports the Healthy Communities Plan, which promotes a whole-of-community approach to preventing family violence and fostering respect and equality.

Everyone is welcome to take part - registrations are encouraged.
Call PICAL on 03 5952 1131 or email reception@pical.org.au to register your attendance. Please wear orange to show your support.
