Bass Coast Shire Council will start work on November 11 (subject to weather) to upgrade the Kilcunda Foreshore beach stairs.
The council said the works have been scheduled during a period of predicted good weather and will be ready in plenty of time for the sun and beach season.
Works include a new handrail and part of the stairs will be removed and replaced.
"The stairs are well used and for the safety of residents and visitors are in need of an upgrade," council advised.
"For safety reasons, the stairs and immediate surrounding areas will be fenced off for the duration of the work. The project is expected to take between one and two weeks."
An alternate beach access point is Kilcunda carpark stairs east.
The council said work is subject to weather and potential supply of material issues and contractor availability can also impact delivery times.
