At Newhaven College, learning is about developing the whole child. Set across a sprawling 33-hectare campus, our Prep to Year 12 community provides students with the space, opportunities and support to learn, grow and thrive. From the early years through to senior school.

Located within the Phillip Island and Bass Coast community, Newhaven offers a rich and diverse education that combines academic learning with creativity,
outdoor education, vocational experiences, leadership and community connection.

A broad range of co-curricular opportunities in sport, the arts, leadership and beyond encourages students to explore their interests, build meaningful relationships and develop new skills.

As students progress into senior school, they take greater ownership of their learning, developing independence, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills while exploring the pathways that will shape their future.

Preparing for the future

Newhaven College senior school provides students with opportunities to choose subjects that reflect their interests, strengths and aspirations.

Academic learning is complemented by practical experiences that help students connect their knowledge and skills to the real world.

The Year 10 Work Experience Program gives students an early opportunity to explore different industries and career options, while the College's careers team provides guidance as students consider further education, training and employment beyond school.

For students pursuing vocational pathways, the Vocational Major (VM) provides valuable opportunities for authentic, hands-on learning.

Students are encouraged to explore pathways that reflect their individual interests, strengths and talents, helping them develop a clearer understanding of their future opportunities.

Through practical VM projects, students experience the power of learning by doing, applying their knowledge and skills in meaningful, real-world contexts.

These experiences foster the development of literacy, numeracy and enterprise skills, while also building confidence, strengthening problem-solving capabilities and developing collaboration and teamwork.

As Head of Senior School Brett Torstonson says, "Newhaven aims to help students discover their passions while developing the skills and qualities needed for their future. Our goal is to inspire our students to become lifelong learners, global citizens and compassionate leaders."

Learning beyond the classroom

Across the College, students also benefit from a strong connection to the outdoors and their local environment.

The specialised camps program provides opportunities to develop resilience, teamwork and environmental awareness.

Leadership and community involvement are equally important.

Students are encouraged to contribute to their school and wider community, engage with local and global issues, and develop into thoughtful and compassionate young people.
