Lights out in Cowes and across the island

FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 6 PM:

A power outage is impacting properties across Phillip Island.

According to AusNet, affected areas include Silverleaves, Ventnor, Wimbledon Heights, Cowes and Rhyll, with over 9000 properties without power.

Estimated time for power to be restored is 10.30pm this evening.

The power outage couldn't come at a worse time, with visitors arriving on the island for the long weekend

Cowes main street is in darkness, including all the restaurants with weekend customers.

This is the third long weekend in two years where Cowes and surrounds have been blacked out.

Last year's Queen's Birthday long weekend was also hit with power outages after violent storms across the state.

The storms left many homes and businesses on Phillip Island without power for 24 - 48 hours, although some spent almost a week without power.
