The life of a much-loved island resident is celebrated in a mural in Cowes.

The Olive Justice Place mural in Chapel Street was designed and painted by artist Eirian Chapman. Designing the mural, Eirian focused on “Olive’s wish for the space to be transformed into a garden for the community to enjoy, as well as a safe space for mothers and babies”.

Paying homage to Olive’s love of gardening and the relationship between mother and child, the mural also includes a nod to the island’s farming history, with blue chicory flowers, lavender stems and a Heron, found in local waterways.

Eirian, who moved to the island in early 2019, works as a commercial illustrator for companies as diverse as Uber, Spotify and Schweppes, and has also created Island Animal cards, showcasing the local wildlife.
