In 2016 a VicRoads director explained Phillip Island traffic was growing at one of the fastest rates in the state and the community must decide if it wants "Gold Coast" style road duplication. The Department of Transport is currently monitoring traffic on the Phillip Island Road using a series of cameras, with a view to road developments.
