Today's Bass Coast Shire Council meeting has been adjourned, after a solitary protestor disrupted the meeting.

The interruption occurred as councillors voted on a motion about the Voice, put forward by Cr Leticia Laing.

The motion called on the council to publicly support "a constitutionally enshrined voice to Parliament for First Nations people", as well as committing to sharing "clear, credible information" on the proposal and upcoming referendum.

Five of the nine councillors voted to support the motion, and the decision was met by cries of "shame, shame" from audience member, Phillip Island resident John Trigt.

Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan asked Mr Trigt to refrain from interjecting, or be removed from the chamber.

When Mr Trigt persisted, he was asked to leave by security.

When he refused, the meeting was adjourned and the police were called.

Supporters of the Voice, many carrying signs or wearing Vote Yes t-shirts were in the audience, outnumbering the solo protestor six to one.
