Bass Coast Shire Council is reviewing how markets are run across the shire and is asking for feedback from the community.

The council’s Engage Bass Coast website includes three separate surveys: one for the community; one for market operators and stallholders: and one for local businesses.

The review is particularly looking at markets held on council managed land.

“Your feedback will help shape a new set of guidelines to make markets work better for everyone across our region,” the Engage website states.

“Markets play an important role in activating public spaces, supporting local makers and producers, enhancing the visitor experience and contributing to the local economy.

“At the same time, Council must balance these benefits with considerations relating to public safety, amenity, environmental protection, operational capacity and fair and transparent governance.”

Council said the review will provide it with a “clear, evidence-based framework to guide decision-making and enable a more proactive and strategic approach to markets across the shire”.

Feedback closes on Sunday May 24.
