Mayor’s Message

By Cr Clare Le Serve

Our schools are filling again with all our Bass Coast children who are hopefully settling in and looking forward to this next year of continual learning. I’m told there are over 600 children who entered our many kindergartens across the region. I hope they are all having a warm and welcoming entrance into the education environment.

We have many events around the region this week including a fantastic family-friendly session in Wonthaggi Rec Reserve to see the Hawks – Hawthorn Football Club VFLW and the Box Hill Hawks. We expect around 125 people from the clubs to come to our region.

Bass Coast Shire Council has a formal partnership with the Hawks and we are very excited to host them here again. We encourage everyone in our community to get involved. There will be six local coaches and local players training.  There will also be a free kid's football clinic on Sunday for ages 5-12, no matter the skill level.

To kickstart this year's program the Hawks are hosting a range of activities and we encourage those interested to get involved. We will have further events being planned, so please keep an eye out for further information on our Bass Coast Shire Council website.

On other matters, Council will shortly be hosting the Developing Bass Coast Forum and the 2024 Forum theme is: “Opportunities for Sustainable Development in Bass Coast”. We invite industry and businesses to come along and learn about sustainable development practices which can be embedded in new residential developments in a way that meets the environmental challenges of our times, while being affordable.

Join us for breakfast and conversation at our upcoming forum on Wednesday February 28.

On Thursday February 15, we host the Rural Engagement Group, where everyone from our agricultural community can join us for a resilience workshop at Kernot Hall.
