The last few weeks have been very challenging for some of our community who live, are building or planning to build in the Wonthaggi North East Precinct Structure Plan area.

I want to assure you all that through the CEO Greg Box and Senior Planning Officers, Council is constantly in touch with the State Government, the Victorian Planning Authority and the Environmental Protection Authority and is working to resolve this as a matter of urgency. I have also personally sent a letter to the Minister of Planning.

It may take some time as the authorities work through the process as it is a very complex planning issue. I also encourage all of you affected, if you haven’t already, to sign up for updates from Council.

Community, diversity and inclusion

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a fantastic Diversity and Inclusion 18th breakfast hosted by the Wonthaggi Rotary Club, alongside Cr Geoff Ellis. It was a wonderful event that highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion in our community. We are stronger when we embrace our differences and work together towards a shared future.

With that, one of my favourite events is coming up – the next Citizenship Ceremony, where I can't wait to welcome new citizens into our community. It's always a joyous moment that reflects the diverse richness of our region.

We have the upcoming Community Awards on the 30th of this month. This is a special occasion where we celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to our community. Many deserving people have been nominated, and I am looking forward to honouring their dedication and commitment.

Active Bystander training

Council will soon be accepting expressions of interest for Active Bystander Training. This training is open to all members of the public who are passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
