Brrrr! We've certainly felt winter arrive in Bass Coast over the past few weeks.

The mornings have been foggy, the wind has had a bit of bite to it, and there have been plenty of reasons to reach for an extra layer.

But if there's one thing that stands out about our community and visitors, it's that a little cold weather doesn't stop people from getting out and making the most of what Bass Coast has to offer.

The school holidays have brought plenty of activity to the region.

Following the success of the Island Whale Festival, whale sightings are being reported along the Bass Coast and Phillip Island coastline.

While the thought of jumping into the ocean right now is enough to make me shiver, these incredible visitors are actually travelling north in search of warmer waters - their own version of a winter getaway.

Meanwhile, the newly completed Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail has been busy with walkers, runners and cyclists. It's fantastic to see so many people embracing an active lifestyle and making the most of the cooler conditions before summer arrives.

The trail has quickly become a popular addition to our network and a great way to experience some of Bass Coast's stunning scenery.

For those looking for a bigger adventure, the George Bass Coastal Walk has also been attracting plenty of visitors. I've noticed the car park at Punch Bowl Road in San Remo filled with cars on many occasions lately.

Personally, I'd argue winter is one of the best times to tackle this spectacular walk, with comfortable hiking conditions, dramatic coastal views and, if you're lucky, a whale sighting or two.

The school holidays have also sparked plenty of curiosity at the Inverloch Visitor Information Centre, where families have been enjoying the dinosaur display. Bass Coast is home to Australia's first dinosaur fossil discovery and the most diverse range of polar dinosaur fossils in the world.

Through interactive displays, fossil experiences and dinosaur discovery tours at The Caves, Inverloch, delivered by the South Gippsland Conservation Society and Bunurong Coast Education, visitors have been learning about our unique prehistoric history while creating some memorable family holiday moments along the way.

It's been wonderful to see our towns so active throughout the holiday period. The visitors who come to enjoy these experiences support local businesses and strengthen our visitor economy.

Stay warm, enjoy the rest of winter, and keep getting out there.
