McCarthy chases Formula Vee record
Reef McCarthy will race for a new record in Formula Vee this November.
Reef McCarthy will race for a new record in Formula Vee this November when he attempts his fourth Island Magic title in succession.
In 2019 McCarthy took his first Island Magic victory under unusual circumstances where he shared the win with fellow competitor Davin Field. For the first time in the events history the pair were unable to be split by a photo finish and ultimately judged as a ‘dead heat’ with both competitors being awarded first place.
The following two years saw the typical close finishes we expect in Formula Vee, with McCarthy taking victory by one hundredth of a second in 2020 and two tenths of a second in 2021.
McCarthy is proud to announce this year he will be backed by local business the Ramada Resort Phillip Island.

“It is a real honour to be representing the Ramada Resort at Island Magic this year,” Reef said.
“Ramada Resort Phillip Island have been great supporters of the event for a very long time, not only providing accommodation for competitors and crew, but also administration facilities and event support.
“Island Magic is the highlight of the year for many local and interstate competitors. The team at PIARC always put on an amazing event and being the last race of the year for many of us, it always something special to look forward to.”
Island Magic will be run at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on November 26 -27.
