Tourism
The Ken Hore Tourism Mentoring Program celebrates 12 years of supporting emerging tourism leaders, with applications now open for the 2026 program.
The program continues its mission to nurture and develop the next generation of tourism professionals in Gippsland, Phillip Island and Bass Coast. The program was recognised with a Silver Award in the 2025 Victorian Tourism Awards training category.
Since its launch in 2014, the Ken Hore Tourism Mentoring Program has helped 75 tourism professionals build their skills, confidence, and networks, strengthening Victoria’s tourism sector.
The program honours the late Ken Hore, who was a respected tourism leader known for his dedication to promoting regional tourism.
At the 2011 Victorian Tourism Awards, Ken received the award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual in acknowledgment of his tourism career.
To continue his legacy, the program provides hands-on learning experiences, one-on-one mentoring, and networking opportunities to help new and emerging tourism professionals grow their careers in the industry.
Applications are open to individuals who have worked in tourism for five years or less and are currently employed in the Gippsland or Phillip Island tourism sector.
Applicants may be full time, part time or casual and can be working in any aspect of the private or publicly funded tourism sector.
By investing in new talent and fostering innovation, the program ensures that Gippsland and Bass Coast remain vibrant and welcoming destinations for visitors from across Australia and beyond.
The program is delivered in collaboration by Destination Gippsland, Destination Phillip Island and Bass Coast Shire Council.
