Movie club moves again
The Phillip Island Movie Clubs is screening “Promising Young Woman” on Thursday July 14 at 7.30pm at St Philip’s Hall in Cowes.
Technical issues at the Penguin Parade means the Phillip Island Movie Club (PIMC) has found a new home for its film screenings.
The Penguin Parade Management has advised they cannot take any bookings for films until its theatre is repaired, and there is no firm date for that.
“Luckily we have been able to secure the St Philip’s Church Hall for Thursday July 14,” said Club Secretary Margaret Byrne.
This means the club will finally get to screen “Promising Young Woman” a 2020 American Drama/Comedy/Horror film which had to be cancelled on Sunday June 19 at the Penguin Parade and was initially rescheduled for July 17.
The film is rated MA for strong language and violence and runs for 108 mins. The doors will open at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8pm.
“This is a brilliant film on a number of levels but will divide the audience because of the subject matter portrayal and its rawness,” Margaret said.
The film is written by Emerald Fennell, an English actor and director and filmed in 23 days when Emerald was only 36 years old. She won the Academy Award 2021 for the best original screenplay and the BAFTA Awards for Best Screenplay and Outstanding British Film of the Year.
“Without giving too much away, the film tells the story of a young medical school dropout spiralling between grief, rage and revenge, after a life changing event.”
The PIMC next film “Red Joan” will be screened on Tuesday August 23 at St Phillip’s Church Hall.
There will be tea and coffee but members are requested to bring your own cup.
Entrance is by membership only.
