The Department of Environment Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has appointed eight volunteers for a three-year term to the San Remo Recreation Centre Committee of Management.

Six of the members are new to the committee, while two are previous members.

Attending the committee’s inaugural meeting was Pat Lambert, Program Manager Land and Built Environment DELWP, to thank outgoing members and provide an induction to new members.

Certificates of recognition were presented to long serving committee members Tess Lee (21 years), Elleanor Ross (15 years) and Karen Bowker (15 years).

With a combined 51 years of service to the committee, Tess, Elleanor and Karen have contributed skills, knowledge and experience within their roles, enhancing public enjoyment of the reserve for countless others as a result.

San Remo Recreation Centre committee member Karen Bowker says the versatility of the centre makes it an irreplaceable asset for the community.

“The community are the beneficiaries of the centre, it’s the gem of the town,” she said.

“We know the value of the centre and what it brings to the community. We are adjacent to it and every day we see people making use of the facilities. We are extremely fortunate to have the facility nearby and I see so much potential for so many diverse groups, clubs and events going forward.”

Past, present and future committee members have influenced the essence of San Remo, said Mr Lambert, who paid tribute to the efforts of the committee and its outgoing members.

“DELWP would like to celebrate and recognise the long service of Tess, Elleanor and Karen who have all played a key role in the management and improvement of the San Remo Recreation Centre over a substantial period of years,” he said.

“While Karen is continuing on the new committee, Tess and Elleanor have decided to depart the committee after many years of dedicated service.”
