It was time to shine for Year 2 to 12 Newhaven College students taking part in the college’s Spring Concert on September 10, at the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre; and shine they certainly did!

The night commenced with the guitar ensemble, followed by Junior, Middle choirs and Senior vocal ensembles. The Junior School strings performed beautifully concluding in Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

The evening then took the energy up a notch with the concert bands, with the big band taking on some blues classics including Sweet Home Alabama.

The stage was overflowing with over 70 students, music staff and parent musicians and the audience rightly demanded an encore.

The evening celebrated the result of many years of work to develop the College’s music program to such a high standard. The students did both their school and themselves proud with polished performances, displaying an obvious love for music that could be felt by the audience throughout the theatre.

Newhaven College’s Director of Music, Matthew Goss is incredibly proud of the College’s Music students and teachers.

“The Spring Concert is the culmination of not only this year's work but the dedication and passion of each of these students and staff,” he said.

“Congratulations to all students who performed. Your dedication to music through the hours of practice, coming to early morning rehearsals or extra weekend rehearsals is testimony to your character.

“Thank you to our talented and dedicated music staff. I'm constantly inspired by your energy and new ideas. Our College community is fortunate to have such dedicated practitioners in our midst.”

Newhaven College’s tradition of nurturing the musical soul of each student is now enhanced by the new Performing Arts Wing.

Newhaven College’s music students have a place to learn, collaborate and rehearse together and build on what is already a stunning collective of budding musicians.

With ongoing tuition from the College’s music teachers and tutors, Newhaven College music students are supported to reach their highest potential. Each student is encouraged to discover their unique expression of music while developing confidence, ease, excellence and enjoyment each step of the way.

The College believes stars of the future are on campus right now, learning their artistry while sharing their talents with other students, parents and the whole community.
