Newhaven College student Holly van der Pligt received top honours this week for her outstanding VCE results in 2021.
Holly received a Premier’s VCE Award for excellence in Environmental Science making her one of the top Environmental Science students in the state.
Holly thanked her teachers for their support during her years at Newhaven College.
“Your teachers reverberate the amount of energy you put into your studies, and it would be illogical to not draw on their knowledge and guidance throughout such a challenging year,” she said.
“Take advantage of every opportunity you are given, do what you love and do it passionately and there's no doubt you will succeed.”
Newhaven College principal Tony Corr said the entire school community was proud of Holly.
“We are very proud of Holly and her exceptional academic performance. She worked very hard and her results are a testament to her dedication and commitment.
“The VCE Premiers Award is recognition of her outstanding achievements. At Newhaven we pride ourselves on providing the best opportunities possible for each student to achieve success. It is pleasing to have seen Holly flourish in the caring and supportive environment she experienced at our school.”
Holly’s teacher Karyn Scott mentioned that Holly’s thoughtful questioning was what set her apart.
“It’s been a privilege teaching Holly throughout her time at Newhaven College. From Year 7 she exhibited a genuine interest and curiosity in both people and the world around her.”
Holly was among 298 of Victoria’s brightest students, recognised by this year’s Premier’s VCE Awards.
