Bass Coast community invited to celebrate Phillip Island

Open Day

Locals will come together to celebrate research, conservation and community at the Phillip Island Nature Parks Community Open Day next month.

The Nature Parks will open the gates of its range of diverse attractions, offering residents free access on Saturday September 13 to celebrate the extraordinary conservation work being undertaken on their doorsteps by committed rangers, volunteers, staff and local community groups.

As part of the community festivities, locals can book in to visit the Penguin Parade free-of-charge on either Friday September 12 or Saturday September 13.

Enjoy research and conservation presentations, live music and engage with local community stalls at Churchill Island. Spot koalas and charismatic bush-stone curlews at the Koala Conservation Reserve.

Community Impact Manager at the Nature Parks, Kate Adams said the Community Open Day was a chance for locals to enjoy special access to wildlife and gain a greater insight into the conservation efforts happening in their neighbourhood.

"Milawul has been long loved by locals, and interstate and overseas tourists, and the Nature Parks values greatly the ongoing support of our local community in the work that we do," Ms Adams said.

"Community Open Day is one way we like to give back and thank locals for their support, which is critical to the success of our initiatives. It also fosters crucial awareness about our important conservation programs and care for flora and fauna.

"I encourage everyone to take advantage of this special event and enjoy all the magic that the island has to offer."

Entry to all activities and attractions is free throughout the day for residents, landholders, students and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members in the Bass Coast Shire.

The event is ticketed, and registration opens on August 30 at penguins.org.au/about/our-community/community-news/community-open-day-2025

Tickets are subject to availability and proof of residency is required.
