Bass Coast gears up for Australia Day celebration
1 min read

The theme for this year's celebration is Reflect, Respect, Celebrate, and Promote Unity.

Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve looks forward to welcoming our new citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony in Wonthaggi on January 26. Community members are invited to attend other community-wide events all held on Australia Day.

The Mayor extended a warm invitation to residents and visitors alike to join in the Australia Day festivities, emphasising the values of reflection, respect, celebration, and unity. The highlight of the day will be the Citizenship Ceremony where new citizens will officially become a part of the vibrant Australian community.

The Citizenship Ceremony holds a special place in the community's hearts as it symbolises the diversity and multiculturalism that defines Bass Coast.

Mayor Le Serve expressed her excitement about the event.

"Every year, we welcome new citizens into the community, and we are honoured to be officially bringing in a range of new members who will now become Australian citizens."

Moving to new countries is a monumental undertaking, often involving leaving behind familiar faces, family, and established networks.

Mayor Le Serve expressed admiration for those who have chosen Australia as their new home, acknowledging the varied reasons that bring individuals to the country.

"We are a welcoming country, and we are diverse and multicultural. We accept all people into our community at Bass Coast," she affirmed.

Beyond the private Citizenship Ceremony in Wonthaggi, the day will be filled with community-wide events, providing an opportunity for people to come together.

The events will showcase the rich tapestry of cultures that contribute to the community's vibrancy and highlight the importance of respect and celebration in fostering harmony.
