The Victorian Seniors Festival returns to Bass Coast this month.
Bass Coast Shire Council is proud to be hosting and working with local community groups to hold events across the region - there's something for everyone!
With the theme Connect, Create, Celebrate, it's a fitting invitation for older Victorians to re-connect with hobbies, explore new interests, and come together with others to share joy.
From social competitions at sporting clubs (including tennis, pickleball and tai chi) and card games to band and vocal performances, art and craft events, history tours and lunches, there will be something to suit all tastes and interests in this year's festival.
A highlight of this year's festival is the free art workshops in Coronet Bay.
Council has partnered there with Luminous Galleries to provide free workshops followed by a stunning exhibition on the foreshore.
These workshops are all about trying something new - no experience required, just curiosity and a willingness to get creative. Each session is capped at 20 people, so bookings are essential.
The workshops kicked off with a Garden Plywood Workshop on October 5, followed by:
Saturday, 11 October - Fluid Art and Murals Workshop: Explore the magic of bold paint, colour movement and creative play with unexpected tools like hairdryers.
Saturday, 18 October - Aluminium Art Workshop: Learn how to create textured, shimmering metallic artworks using glue, foil and imagination.
The program culminates in an exhibition showcasing the creativity on the Coronet Bay Foreshore from October 26 - November 30, with an opening celebration on Sunday November 2 at 4pm.
Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the artists.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead, said the festival is all about community connection and celebration.
"We're so proud to support the many local groups who have organised events or applied for festival grants this year. These groups are opening their doors to welcome you, so don't be shy!
Lean into the spirit of the festival and Connect, Create and Celebrate!"
As an added bonus, Victorian Seniors Card holders can enjoy free public transport from Sunday October 5 to Sunday October 12 to participate in the Statewide events.
