Don’t miss the bus
1 min read

The BreastScreen Victoria mobile screening service is currently visiting Phillip Island, stationed outside Berninneit.

This is the first time the bus has ever visited the island and it’s offering free breast screens to women and trans and gender-diverse people aged 50 to 74 years.

The bus will remain in Cowes until May 10 and there are still appointments available.

The organisation is hoping local women will take advantage of the convenient screening option. If the response is good, further visits will be scheduled.

A spokesperson for BreastScreen Victoria, said the organisation helps to save lives and reduce the impact of breast cancer through early detection.

“Age is the biggest risk factor for breast cancer, with 75 per cent of breast cancers occurring in women over 50,” they said.

“We invite women and trans and gender-diverse people aged 50 to 74 with no breast symptoms to have a free, 10-minute breast screen every two years.”

Breast screens are performed by woman radiographers and do not require a Medicare card or doctor's referral.

The bus visiting Cowes is one of two mobile screening services across the state, which operate alongside BreastScreen Victoria’s 50 clinics.

To book an appointment visit breastscreen.org.au or call 13 20 50.
