Improving water usage accuracy for all customers

As part of its commitment to provide reliable service to customers, Westernport Water is undertaking a water meter replacement program across Westernport Water's service area from early May 2024.

Currently, there are over 19,000 residential water meters in use and Westernport Water plans to replace approximately 800 water meters per year for the next 10 to 15 years.

The meter renewal program aims to ensure equitable treatment of all customers by providing accurate water usage readings and renewing aged meters, township by township.

Residents, landowners and property managers will be given at least seven days notification via direct mail prior to any meter replacement activities commencing in their area.

"Our water meter replacement program across residential properties will ensure accurate measurement of water usage and improve billing accuracy," said Managing Director Dona Tantirimudalige.

"After the replacement, a card will be left at the property notifying residents, landowners and property managers that the meter has been replaced."

The average time taken to replace a water meter and stop tap is around 15 minutes, however it can take up to one hour and the water to the property will be turned off during this time.

A Westernport Water representative will knock on the door before changing the meter. Customers don't have to be home during the replacement and the knock is a courtesy to let them know that works are occurring.
