Local kids compete in State cross country
1 min read

Newhaven Primary School has declared itself "the home of cross-country athletes", after two of its grade five students, Kelsey Watson and Nate Churchill, made it all the way to State level in cross country.

Principal Sharyne Munday said the school was "enormously proud" of Kelsey and Nate's achievement.

"This is Kelsey's first time at State level competing in cross country, although she has competed at regional level in 1500m," said Sharyne.

"Kelsey is nervous but excited to race in the Yarra Rangers next term.

"Our second student, Nate Churchill, is no stranger to competing at State level in Little Athletics in the following events: 100m, 200m, 800m and can now add cross country to his achievements.

"Nate is a little nervous but was only 200m behind the winner at regional level," she said.

"Kelsey and Nate and their families should be proud of their achievements and the whole school is behind them as they prepare for their run next term.

"We wish them all the best, as they always give everything a red-hot go."
