Mayor's Message

By Cr Rochelle Halstead

One of the greatest privileges I have as Mayor is the opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary individuals and groups who make Bass Coast such a special place to live. Recently, I had the honour of presenting the Bass Coast Community Awards, and I'm still filled with pride and emotion from that evening.

Twelve-year-old Isla, our Next Generation Leader winner, captured hearts with her wise and thoughtful words. She reminded us that leadership, courage, compassion and clarity of purpose can come from the youngest among us. She was truly inspirational. I will be following Isla's work and hope she will join us at next year's awards to update us.

The Bass Coast Breakers received the Sports Leadership Award, and their commitment goes far beyond the football field. The entire team attended the awards night - cancelling their training to do so, and in matching pride t-shirts - their energy, unity and pride were absolutely infectious. They are powerful role models for inclusion and resilience, and their presence lit up the room.

The Bass Valley Community Group, who won the Community Group Award, also stood out for their unwavering commitment. I have watched their work closely and know how well deserved this recognition is. Their efforts touch the lives of so many - from delivering essential services to creating safe, connected spaces.

Sarah Pederson, our Community Leader, moved us all with her emotional and generous speech. Sarah chose to pass on her gift basket to Nicky Chung, another nominee whose work spans across

Rotary, Vietnamese Women's Association and Homelessness. This gesture spoke volumes about Sarah's humility and the respect she has for others who quietly shape our community.

These awards shine a light on the heart of Bass Coast - our people. The kindness, strength, and generosity I witnessed that night will stay with me always. It reminds me why I love this role, and why I

believe so strongly in the spirit of our community.

To every nominee and winner - thank you and thank you to the many other volunteers across Bass Coast.
