Locals learn new cooking skills with chef Tony Goodlet. PICAL's term three program, which includes a range of classes and support groups, is now available at pical.org.au.
The Phillip Island Community and Adult Learning Centre (PICAL) term three program is all about creating spaces where people can come together - whether to learn a new skill, share a passion or simply enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.
"We've designed this term's offerings with community connection at the heart. From social groups and support networks to cooking classes and job-ready training, there's something here for everyone," explains David Rooks, PICAL Centre Manager.
Two of PICAL's warmly-welcomed support groups, launched in term two, are continuing into term three:
* Carer Support Group: Connect, share and recharge with fellow carers over a relaxed morning filled with guest speakers. Meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 11am.
* Peer Stroke Support Group: Emotional support and skills to help stroke survivors and carers manage life post stroke. Meets every second Wednesday at 10am.
"Many community members have already created strong connections through our support groups. We welcome anyone that might benefit from these groups," David said.
Food, friendship and fun
Plans are also underway for two new cooking groups in term three. The groups will bring people together around the kitchen table:
* Favourite Recipes Group: If you love cooking and would like to share your favourite recipes with others then this group is for you.
On the week you're not cooking up your signature dish for the group you will experience the favourite recipes of others.
* Preserves Group: Love making jams, chutneys or jellies? Join us to create and sell your delicious preserves to raise funds for PICAL.
If you're interested in either of these groups, register your interest online at pical.org.au (go to program info and bookings) or call into PICAL's reception.
Courses that build skills and community
* Chair Yoga: Gentle, friendly sessions return from July 21 at 1.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.
* Basic Cooking and Budget Meals: Cook alongside chef Tony Goodlet and learn to make tasty meals without breaking the bank.
* Tech Support Tuesdays: Book at PICAL's reception to get friendly help using your phone, laptop or tablet.
"At PICAL, we believe that real learning and wellbeing happens when we feel connected.
That's why everything we do is about building community, whether you're joining a group, taking a course or just dropping by for a chat," concludes David.
