Rotary honours leaders

The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo hosted its inaugural Paul Harris Fellow evening at the Rusty Water Brewery recently.

Judy Lawrence was made a Paul Harris Fellow, as a leader whose two decades of community service "have left a lasting imprint across Phillip Island", said club president Gea Lovell.

"Judy was praised for her leadership within Rotary, her environmental advocacy through Rhyll Boomerang Bags, her role in preserving local history, and her editorial contributions as founder of the Rhyll Reporter," Gea said.

Peter Buitenhuis, a Rotarian for more than 30 years, received his Paul Harris Fellow certificate for contributions including music and organisation of fundraising events.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition, named after Rotary's founder, is one of the organisation's highest honours, and recognises those who exemplify Rotary's motto of Service Above Self.

Guests included Rotary's District Governor Colin Byron, and Bass Coast Mayor Rochelle Halstead.

Donation

The club also announced a $5000 donation to the Monash Children's Hospital for a dedicated apheresis nurse, which will enhance the quality of care and improve survival outcomes for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Funds raised through the project will also contribute to the latest stem cell research, ensuring children receive the most effective, tailored treatment strategies available.
