San Remo transition program

San Remo Primary School has a successful program to support all students throughout their schooling journey.

Principal Karen Bowker said the school was "extremely proud of the development and success of its comprehensive transition program", which spans from Prep to Grade 6.

"Over the past two years, the program has seen significant improvements, ensuring that all students are supported through key transition points in their schooling journey," Ms Bowker said.

All students across every year level participate in additional transition days and activities, with further tailored support provided for those who may need a little extra care.

"This initiative forms a key part of our focus on Inclusive Education, which is a core priority during Terms 3 and 4.

"A highlight of the program this year is the early introduction of the Buddy Program between our Grade 5 students and the children at San Remo Preschool," Ms Bowker explained.

"In small groups of five, our Grade 5 students visit the preschool on Wednesday and Friday mornings to engage with the 2026 kinder cohort. During their visits, they participate in shared play, reading, and collaborative activities designed to help preschoolers feel confident and connected as they prepare for their transition to Prep."

The initiative not only helps future Prep students get familiar with the school, and with older students, "but also provides a valuable leadership and mentoring opportunity for our Grade 5 students", she said.

"It strengthens the sense of community and sets a strong foundation for positive school relationships in the years to come."
