Students go Ga-Ga with Rotary

The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo has once again partnered with students from The Village School (Ryanston Senior Campus) to construct a ga-ga ball pit for a local school.

This latest installation at San Remo Primary School marks the sixth ga-ga pit completed across the region, and the fourth constructed with the valued assistance of Village School students.

Senior students worked alongside Rotarians on-site under the guidance of Rotarian John Tennant, contributing their time, energy, and ideas to bring the project to life. This initiative is part of Rotary's

ongoing commitment to promoting active play, community engagement, and youth development through hands-on learning.

Ga-Ga ball, an inclusive and fast-paced game played within an octagonal pit, has gained significant popularity in schools throughout the district.

The ga-ga pits provide a safe, enjoyable space for physical activity and social connection during school hours.

Rotary said what distinguishes this initiative is its practical, educational focus.

Rather than completing the construction independently, Rotary involves students directly in the building process - providing an opportunity to learn valuable skills while fostering teamwork, leadership, and community pride.

"This is about more than just building a playground," said Rotarian John Tennant.

"It's about empowering young people and demonstrating the impact they can have when they engage with their community."

The growing partnership between Rotary and The Village School serves as a strong example of how collaboration between community organisations and schools can deliver meaningful, lasting outcomes.

With six ga-ga pits now completed and growing interest from additional schools, the project is well-positioned to continue making a positive impact into the future.
