Offshore Theatre Company brought home an astounding 10 trophies from the recent Gippsland Associated Theatre Awards night.
Phillip Island’s Offshore Theatre Company brought home an astounding 10 trophies from the recent Gippsland Associated Theatre Awards night.
Both plays Offshore staged this year – Australian's All and 2:20 AM gathered awards with 2:20AM taking the honours as Most Outstanding Production in the Comedy/Drama category.
Outgoing President of Offshore and director of Australians All Amanda Price accepted the award for Most Outstanding Program Design, whilst incoming President Remi D’Agostin was awarded Most Outstanding Lighting Design for 2:20AM.
Remi D’Agostin summed up the feelings of all involved with Offshore.
“It was completely unexpected. We are just blown away by the award results.
“Offshore was nominated for 15 awards in 12 categories and won nine plus a judge’s award for efforts in nursing the production of Australians All through the pandemic,” Remi said.
“It’s a huge testament to the commitment and talents of everyone at Offshore.”
Incoming Vice-President, director of 2:20AM and winner of Most Outstanding Director Comedy/Drama, Melissa McMillan was equally taken aback by the success.
“2:20AM is a beautifully written play about a difficult topic and our minimalist staging struck a chord with audiences and judges alike because the emphasis was squarely on the characters and their journey,” she said.
“The response has been amazing.”
In the Drama/Comedy category, Offshore’s production of 2:20AM collected awards for the Most Outstanding Production.
Director – Melissa McMillan; Lead Actor – Chris White; Sound Design – Chris White; Lighting Design – Remi D’Agostin.
For Program Design and Small Ensemble for the Open Category in the Drama/Comedy category, Australians All won: Most Outstanding Supporting Actor – Ashley Reed; Properties – Gerry and Harley Petersen; plus the Judges Award.
Offshore Theatre is assembling the 2024 program and is eager to hear via the Offshore Facebook page from anyone who would like to participate either on-stage, back-stage or any other capacity.
