Offshore brings powerful new work to local audiences

Offshore Theatre Group is excited to be presenting something very different for their 2023 October production.

Written by Rebecca Lister and directed by Melissa McMillan, 2.20 AM explores grief after suicide in a fresh, honest, heartfelt way.

Audiences will share the intimate and ultimately uplifting experience of characters dealing with life after suicide.

“Four ordinary people, all bereaved by suicide, meet as strangers at a creative writing class and are forced into a reluctant bond. 2.20 AM is important theatre. A beautifully powerful new work,” wrote Theatre People.

In Offshore’s production of 2.20 AM, the cast of four includes Chris White who recently won audience hearts in his portrayal of Robert Wilson in the very successful Australians All, February season.

Chris plays a bereaved father and is joined by Lauren White playing Trish. Lauren is in magnificent form and returns to Offshore six years after playing Cosi.

Annie Khoury makes a stunning debut as Stella, a bitterly bereaved angry young woman whose brutal honesty propels the action and more.

Mel Beynon also returns after a break from the stage; audiences will recognise her from her Offshore performance in Ladybirds.

Director Melissa McMillan has worked in theatre education for 15+ years and is also making her debut as the director of an adult cast.

2.20 AM is a courageous choice by Melissa and her minimalist, stylised approach coupled with the lighting and sound design promises to move and reward audiences.

Season starts on Thursday October 19 and runs Friday October 20, Saturday October 21.

The following week performances are on Thursday October 26, Friday October 27 and Saturday October 28.
