On board for mental health

The first Girls on Board mental health awareness surf program was held recently, at beautiful Smith’s Beach, and it was a great success.

Sponsored by South Coast Bus, and supported by the YMCA, Anglicare, Bass Coast Health and the Youth Hub, conditions on the day were perfect, and event co-ordinator Darren Marks said that everyone involved had a great time.

Darren said that the program has been set up in such a way that it will hopefully provide an ongoing opportunity to promote the importance of good mental and physical health within our community.

The program connected local youth providers, and businesses and community groups with Jess Laing from Girls on Board Surf School, to facilitate the day.

“It was great to have parents, family, carers and volunteers join us ... everyone who took part felt the healing powers of the ocean,” Darren said.
