On Saturday March 25, Newhaven College hosted the annual College Open Day and Alumni reunions.
Graduates from years 1993, 2003, 2013 and 2018 joined prospective families visiting the school on the day. The College’s stunning 82-acre campus was looking its best as visitors teemed from the Gym to the Year 9 Environmental Centre, taking in everything in between.
Open Day
Hundreds of prospective students and their families visited the College and student leaders took guided tours, sharing their knowledge and passion for their school with visitors. It was impressive to see so many students and staff helping out on the day.
Highlights included the equestrian display located near the Year 9 Environmental Centre, where families watched some of Victoria’s best junior riders show off their skills.
The gym was home to fun sporting activities, as well as displays on the school’s surf and tennis academies.
Displays and presentations were on offer throughout the school’s main locations.
Visitors were treated at every location around the campus: enjoying the soft vocals of the choir at Junior School; making little wooden cars and watching cooking demonstrations at the Trades Centre; partaking in some ice cream making with liquid nitrogen or making a clay sculpture in the Specialist Wing; being serenaded by some of the school’s top performers in the new Performing Arts Wing; plus lots of other fun interactive activities dotted across the day’s program.
A focus on Newhaven College’s House structure and pastoral care was well received by visitors.
For those unable to attend, Newhaven College tours can be arranged through the College’s Registrar Belinda Manning at belinda.manning@newhavencol.vic.edu.au, 5956 7505 or book online through the Newhaven College website.
Alumni Reunion
Newhaven College is in the process of growing its alumni connections, so the annual reunion is the perfect place to get things moving.
The school welcomed back students who graduated in 1993 (30 years), 2003 (20 years), 2013 (10 years) and 2018 (5 years).
They were met by Principal Tony Corr who guided the group on a tour of the school.
For many of these students, even the most recently departed, there were plenty of new and exciting facilities. For some, it was their first-time setting foot on the Phillip Island Road campus.
The tour was followed by morning tea in the school pavilion with some of our long-term staff. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to catch up and reminisce.
