Paper prodigy visits island
Master paper cutter Janna van Zuijlen visited Phillip Island last week from Holland.
Philip Island Chocolate Factory had an unusual visitor from Holland last week, who specialises in the Dutch folk art of paper cutting.
Janna van Zuijlen, 78, is the leading master cutter and has the unusual ability to take a blank piece of paper and – with no stencils or tracings – produce intricate patterns and designs.
The Dutch paper cutting society can trace its history back to 1890 and it appoints one master cutter, with Janna the fourth master cutter in the society’s history.
Janna has had numerous exhibitions in Europe, and last week was in Australia to visit her sister.
