Patient praise for Urgent Care Centre

Staff at the Urgent Care Centre in Cowes treated over 700 patients in less than two weeks over the busy Christmas holidays.

From December 24 to January 4, 745 patients attended the centre –  a 13.2 per cent increase on the same period for 2021-2022.

Cowes resident Mark O’Reilly visited the Urgent Care Centre in Cowes to receive treatment for a puncture wound from a snapper he caught at Rhyll Jetty.

“They do a great job at the Cowes Urgent Care Centre. I’ve been there a few times and it doesn’t matter whether it’s 5pm or 3am, it’s always first-rate treatment,” he said.

“Five out of five stars from me!”

Viral infection was the most common reason for presentation, followed by tonsillitis, fracture, ear infection, wounds, infection, and COVID-19 positive or probable.

Raja Devanathan, Clinical Director for Urgent Care Services at Phillip Island, said despite the Urgent Care Centre being busy, the experience was enjoyable for medical staff.

“The mood is amazing. This is the recurrent feedback I receive from doctors.

“Even though they all agree its tough work, they all like to come back,” he said.

UCC patients are triaged based on the severity of their condition, not in order of presentation. As a result, some patients may face a wait.

The Urgent Care Centre is open 24/7 for the treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, and is located at the Phillip Island Health Hub, 50-54 Church Street, Cowes.
