PICAL took the opportunity to celebrate its incredible team of volunteers during National Volunteers Week.

On Tuesday, May 16 PICAL hosted a thank you afternoon tea for the charity’s army of volunteers.

It currently has 113 active volunteers, who contribute to PICAL each week or at least once a fortnight.

New PICAL president, Graeme Turner addressed more than 40 PICAL volunteers who attended the afternoon tea.

Given the many different teams and diverse range of activities undertaken by the volunteers, the afternoon tea was a rare chance for the PICAL volunteers to catch up with one another.

Attendees included Denise McGill, PICAL Deputy-President; Suzi Morris-Ashton, volunteer in the PICAL Office; Catherine Robinson, volunteer in the PICAL emergency food relief Pantry; Mick Piening volunteer in the PICAL Community Garden; Neil Wilmot, volunteer Chair; PICAL Community Garden Sub-Committee and Judi Pay, volunteer on the PICAL Committee.

President Graeme Turner reflected the momentous year PICAL had experienced, and outlined the exciting new opportunities that lie ahead, with a new headquarters building and the soon-to-be-completed new Community Garden.

In thanking all PICAL volunteers for the challenging yet rewarding work they undertake, Graeme reiterated that volunteers are the lifeblood of charities like PICAL.
