Erratic driving
San Remo Police station is appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage of an incident on Saturday, May 26, at about 11am, on Phillip Island, particularly the roads between Cape Woolamai and Cowes.
Police said a light green coloured Ford Fairlane sedan (which had a grey coloured front section, and black coloured aftermarket rims) was observed driving erratically on Phillip Island Road.
Police received several calls from the community regarding the vehicle, with reports it was driving in the direction of Cowes, swerving over the double white lines, and had multiple near-misses with oncoming vehicles.
Police from San Remo and Cowes Police Stations, along with volunteer firefighters from the Phillip Island Fire Brigade, subsequently attended a collision into a shop on Thompson Avenue in Cowes. It’s alleged this was the same vehicle reported driving erratically.
The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old male from Cape Woolamai was arrested nearby, after allegedly leaving the scene of the collision.
The driver is expected to be charged with offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, driving in a manner dangerous, careless driving, failure to have proper control of a vehicle, and failure to exchange details after a collision.
If you were in the area, and witnessed this driving or were almost involved in a collision with this vehicle please contact Crime Stoppers.
Police are also seeking any dash-cam footage of the area of Phillip Island Road and Thompson Avenue from the time of the incident.
Crime Stoppers can be contacted on either telephone 1800 333 000 or online at: www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/report-a-crime/

Police thanked those people who contacted police at the time, and kept the vehicle and driver under observation.
Highway closed
The Bass Highway at Dalyston closed on Monday morning just before 7am, due to a single vehicle collision.
The vehicle was extensively damaged and the driver, an 18-year-old female was later assessed in hospital.
Police reminded motorists of the importance of driving to the conditions and to take a break if you are fatigued.
Over the weekend, police also responded to accidents in Wonthaggi and Inverloch, with police saying alcohol was a factor in both those instances.
